Located in Wilson County, Texas, La Vernia is a small city with a population of about 1,000 people. La Vernia is situated on the southern bank of Cibolo Creek and is located about 28 miles east of Downtown San Antonio, Texas.

La Vernia was originally inhabited by Native American Indians. In 1837, European settlers moved into the area of present day Cibolo. The city was officially settled in the mid-1800s and is said to have originally been named Live Oak Grove. La Vernia’s first post office was established in 1853 under the name Post Oak. The city’s named was changed to La Vernia in 1859.
